Gravity Wax

Erik Kassab (1971-2015) and John Hardin were high school friends in Trenton, Michigan years prior to crafting atmospheres on Erik’s 8-track machine. Ryan Anderson (later of Fuxa) joined the band on drums to record their first batches of proper songs (following the early cassette experiments) before he was replaced by longtime friend/drummer Rob Moon.

When it was released, the Silver Girl 10” sold out quickly as the space rock emanating from the Detroit area in the mid-90s was on fire. As recently documented on Third Man Records’ ‘Southeast of Saturn’ compilation, Gravity Wax’s peers at the time were Windy & Carl, Fuxa, Auburn Lull, Asha Vida and Children's Ice Cream among others. Thanks to boosters like Larry Hoffman (Burnt Hair Records, ‘Life According To Larry’ radio program on WHFR/Dearborn), Gravity Wax released their Moog-inflected pop songs on labels like Burnt Hair, Mind Expansion, and 100 Guitar Mania including their full-length “Low Energy Particulate” that collected all of their compilation tracks and vinyl 7”s.
