Meat Whiplash
Meat Whiplash was a Scottish quartet occupying the same sonic space as The Jesus and Mary Chain's 1984 debut single "Upside Down" on Creation Records.
Also from East Kilbride, Scotland, Jim and William Reid (of The Jesus and Mary Chain) produced Meat Whiplash’s first single for Creation and recruited them to open up for them as they toured the UK trough 1985. Also sharing a bass player in Douglas Hart, both bands became somewhat notorious for the infamous "riot gig" at the North London Polytechnic where fights broke out. Along with the other opening act, The Jasmine Minks, Meat Whiplash became near household names. Their Creation single “Don’t Slip Up” stayed on the UK Independent Chart for 19 weeks reaching #3.
Prior to disbanding to form Motorcycle Boy (with Alex Taylor of Shop Assistants), Meat Whiplash were culling songs together for their (unreleased) debut album that would have included these songs.
